New Smyrna, FL - A dog was rescued on Monday by New Smyrna Beach police after it was left inside a hot U-Haul truck for over an hour.
According to a Facebook post, New Smyrna Beach police responded to a call on Monday regarding a dog left unattended in a parked U-Haul.
Investigators determined the dog had been inside the vehicle with only a cracked window for ventilation and no access to water.
With outside temperatures exceeding 86 degrees, New Smyrna police say the inside of the truck would have been considerably hotter, posing a serious health risk to the animal.
Body camera footage captured the officers rescuing the dog from the scorching U-Haul.
The dog was safely removed and taken to the Southeast Volusia Humane Society.
Police are recommending charges against both of the dog's owners to the state attorney's office.
The specific charges haven't been disclosed and the owners' identities have not yet been released.
