TAMPA -- Florida's not the most dangerous place for pedestrians, but a new report says several areas in our state are seeing more deadly accidents.
The "Dangerous By Design" report from Smart Growth America says deaths are up 75 percent since 2010.
It shows eight Florida metros among the 20 highest pedestrian death rates in the nation. Volusia County is the worst in Florida with a pedestrian fatality rate of almost four per 100 thousand people over a five year period. Tampa Bay, Melbourne, Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Fort Myers, Sarasota and Orlando also made the top 20.
But the report says the death rates in Jacksonville and Melbourne are going down.
Memphis ranked as the most dangerous U.S. city for pedestrians.
