The Indian River County Sheriff's Office has identified a woman whose body was found shot dead in 1982, in a canal alongside State Road 60.
Relatives of Evelyn Lois Horne Townsend were with the sheriff during Tuesday's announcement.
Sheriff Eric Flowers says knowing the longtime Jane Doe's name not only will give the victim's kids peace, it will give investigators new avenues to pursue.
He says they have persons of interest that they've identified but they are deceased. Still, he says the investigation will continue.
