Lakeland Police Look For Survivor In Shooting That Killed Toddler

LAKELAND, FL -- Police are looking for one person they believe was involved in a shootout that left two people dead, including a three-year-old,.at the Cambridge Cove Apartments Monday night.

Police Chief Sam Taylor says around 6:30 Monday evening, a white Dodge Challenger blocked a Rav4 from leaving the area. Yeimarie Baez, 21, and Robert Einzig, 23, and two children were visiting friends. Taylor says 22-year-old Kemarious WIlson got out of the Challenger and approached Einzig with a rifle. Einzig returned fired with his handgun while Baez got out of the car with a three-month-old baby. Three-year-old Jaquez Norton was in the rear passenger seat when he was shot. After the exchange of gunfire, the Challenger drove to another address and dropped off Wilson, who was transported in another car to Lakeland Regional Hospital where he died. Toddler Norton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives recovered nineteen .223 caliber spent casings and nine 9mm spent casings from the scene. They're trying to identify and locate the driver of the Challenger.

It's not known what led up to the shooting. Police say the parties knew each other. Taylor says Baez screamed at Wilson that her children were in the car. He's not sure whether Wilson heard that, or cared.
