After three straight days of practice rounds, official tournament play gets underway today at the first ever Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches.
The information technology company Cognizant takes over the naming rights for the old Honda Classic this year, but the event is expected to have the same look and feel at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens.
Close to 20 of the top 50 golfers in the world are competing, including the world's number 2 ranked golfer Rory McIlroy. He and 31st ranked golfer Rickie Fowler won't have far to drive to hit the links, as they both are residents of Jupiter.
Tournament play will be televised through Sunday on the Golf Channel and NBC.
Palm Beach County tourism officials expect the Cognizant Classic to attract over 200,000 attendees and generate more than $40 million in economic impact for the area.
