Florida Woman Arrested for Allegedly Spiking Boyfriend's Tea with Bleach

Miami-Dade County, FL - A South Florida woman is facing felony charges for allegedly spiking her boyfriend's tea with bleach.

Authorities say 49-year-old Ivette Diaz was arrested on Friday following an incident at her residence in southwest Miami-Dade.

According to police, the victim, who’d been in a relationship with Diaz for three years, prepared a meal and tea for himself around 5:20 pm on February 20th.

The victim briefly left the kitchen to answer a phone call and returned to find Diaz sitting at the table.

The victim offered Diaz a bite of his food and a sip of his tea, both of which she declined.

Shortly after, the victim took a large drink from his tea and immediately felt a burning sensation in his throat.

The victim then noticed a strong bleach odor and discovered remnants of a concentrated bleach tablet in the cup.

The victim confronted Diaz and asked if she’d put bleach in his drink.

Police say Diaz responded by telling the victim, "I thought it was sugar."

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the victim to Homestead Hospital for treatment.

Diaz was arrested and remains jailed without bond on a first-degree felony charge of poisoning food or water.
