VENICE, FL -- There's a report that the family of Gabby Petito has reached a civil settlement with the family of Brian Laundrie and their attorney during mediation.
News Channel 8 in Tampa quotes a statement from Petito's family saying that all parties "reluctantly agreed" to a settlement to avoid prolonged legal conflict and "close this chapter of our lives." Terms are undisclosed.
Petito's parents sued Christopher and Roberta Laundrie and attorney Steven Bertolino, claiming they knew she was dead and created emotional distress by not sharing that information. According to statements by law enforcement, Brian Laundrie killed his fiancée during a vacation in Wyoming in 2021, then returned to Florida and took his own life.
