Volusia County, FL - Orange County Deputy Tristan Chattic, 39, was arrested in Volusia County over allegations of child abuse.

According to an arrest affidavit, Volusia deputies responded to a call about a domestic violence issue at Fish Memorial Hospital around 9 p.m.

The incident involved Chattic, a woman, and her two children.

Chattic reportedly became enraged when one of the children used a tablet for homework, prompting him to unplug the device.

After the child plugged it back in, Chattic allegedly struck the child's mother with a backhand slap, grabbed her hair, choked her, and pushed her to the floor.

He then pinned her down, stepped on her back, and used a belt to strike her, according to investigators.

The child was taken to the hospital to check for injuries. Chattic, when questioned, admitted to striking the child with a belt, claiming she was disobedient and grounded.

Chattic faces a charge of aggravated child abuse and has been relieved of all law enforcement duties without pay pending the investigation.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office emphasized a commitment to thoroughly investigating the allegations and maintaining a zero-tolerance policy toward child abuse or domestic violence.

After criminal proceedings, an administrative investigation will be conducted.
