A defense attorney hired two days ago to represent the mother of a child forced to stay in a box-like structure has quit the case.
Marc Shiner in court today asked a Palm Beach County judge for a continuance.
"I'm a little bit at a disadvantage because I was just retained on Wednesday afternoon, late, and filed this motion after hours on Wednesday."
But Judge Howard Coates wouldn't grant him more than sixty days to be ready for trial, which means Tracy Ferriter will have to find another lawyer.
"In 35 years experience, I don't believe any lawyer could be competent in the court's time that you're giving us so based on that I'd like to move to withdraw then judge I cannot do this."
Mrs. Ferriter's previous attorney quit the case last week, citing an 'irreconcilable difference' between herself and the defendant.
Ferriter's husband, Tim Ferriter, has already been convicted and sentenced to five years for the same charges his wife is facing. Those are aggravated child abuse, child neglect and false imprisonment.
She's been ordered back to court with another new attorney on January 4th and Coates set a new trial date of March 18th.
