Hialeah Gardens, FL - A South Florida man was arrested on felony charges after allegedly setting fire to his estranged wife's apartment early Sunday morning.
Police say 32-year-old Roisel Valdes Cuello is accused of intentionally starting a fire at his estranged wife's apartment on Northwest 82nd Avenue while his wife and her friend were inside.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured Valdes Cuello entering the apartment through a sliding glass door and fleeing with the couple's dog soon after.
According to police reports, Valdes Cuello's wife had previously expressed concern about his desire to take the dog back.
According to the American Red Cross, the fire also damaged a neighboring unit, impacting seven residents, including two children.
Valdes Cuello denies both setting the fire and taking the dog.
Authorities have charged him with attempted murder (two counts), arson (two counts), criminal mischief, and burglary.
He is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
