Jews across the state are getting ready to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah at sundown, amid an unprecedented level of terror threats due to the war between Israel and Hamas.

Rabbi Leib Ezagui at the Jewish Community Synagogue in North Palm Beach tells CBS 12 News that now is the time to be strong and proud.

"While we have to do our part to be safe and to protect ourselves, we can't let the fear get to us."

He is aware of the heightened alert.

"It's not new. There's always been uprisings. There's always been hate."\

The synagogue is holding an event at the Juno Beach Pier, where a menorah sculpted out of sand will be lit up Thursday at 5 p.m. The rabbi expects 600 people to attend.

The event began at Noon, when sculptors started molding the menorah.
