The Jupiter Town Council heard from many residents who are upset about plans to part ways with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

The town has used the county for its fire rescue services for over 40 years, but is expected to start its own fire rescue agency.

Some of those who spoke out wanted to at least have the chance to vote on the issue, others say it will cost more money. But during another meeting last month, the council voted to cut ties with the county, saying it will ultimately save money.

The town Tuesday night approved a contract with the Center for Public Safety Management to provide technical assistance in developing and implementing the Town of Jupiter Fire and Rescue Services Department.

The vote was 4 to 1.
