Miami Beach Swears in 21st Police Chief, Wayne A. Jones

(Miami Beach, Fla.) - The City of Miami Beach welcomed a new police chief today.

Deputy Chief Wayne Jones was sworn in as the city's 21st Police Chief and his father, Mr. Humphrey Jones topped off the ceremony by pinning the new badge on his son's chest. He is the city's first Black police chief.

Jones said he is honored to lead the 400 brothers and sisters of the Miami Beach police department calling it the coolest city in America.

Chief Jones started as a patrol officer in 1996 and has held every rank in the department over the past 27 years. He replaces the outgoing chief, Richard Clements who spent 33 years with the department.

During his time with the department, Chief Jones created the human trafficking unit, the nationally recognized Homeless Resource Officer Program. He is also a licensed pilot.
