A three-county commuter rail line is getting some upgrades thanks to nearly $72 million in federal funding.
Commissioners from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties were at the West Palm Beach Tri-Rail station on Monday as Democrat Congresswoman Lois Frankel presented the check she says was made available thanks to President Biden's bipartisan infrastructure law.
Tri-Rail has been in operation since 1989 and the executive director for its parent company, the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, says the money will be used to replace about 32 percent of the rail line's fleet. But David Dech (deck) says the process is expected to take between five and seven years.
