Law enforcement in Florida and elsewhere are battling a growing drug problem.
The Martin County Sheriff's Office just found out about a February overdose in which a 24-year old woman died after taking fentanyl mixed with the animal tranquilizer xylazine.
Chief Deputy John Budensiek tells CBS 12 News that he hopes a new White House response plan helps.
"Any initiative that helps our residents, helps the community as a whole, keep people from overdosing or getting arrested is something that's positive for us."
He says the drug, also known as "tranq," is coming across the borders and the six-point plan includes disrupting the illegal import from China and Mexico.
West Palm Beach mental health professional Dr. John Dyben says the use of "tranq" is spreading rapidly and he expects the problem to get "very bad."
"Most of what we're seeing across the whole nation is xylazine that is cut with or mixed with fentanyl, and so people don't even know that they're putting this in their body."
The White House's response plan also aims to scale up testing, treatment and education about xylazine.
