LAKELAND -- Police are investigating a deadly crash involving a street sweeper.
A city sweeper was traveling northbound on Tennessee Avenue just before 5 a.m. Thursday, turning onto East Oak Street. The driver felt an impact and at first saw nothing, then spotted a pedestrian on the road behind the sweeper. Responders declared the 70-year-old male pedestrian dead.
The case remains under investigation. It's not clear whether the victim was dead before he was run over. The sweeper was not hurt.
