Police spent the morning responding to active shooter calls at multiple South Florida college campuses.

The Florida International University Police Department says officers evacuated a building and conducted a "methodical search," before giving the all clear, saying there is no danger on campus and the calls appear to be false.

West Palm Beach Police investigated a similar call at Palm Beach Atlantic University and call that a hoax.

Also, emails sent to workers near Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton referenced reports of a possible active shooter in the area and Indian River State College says all of its campuses are safe after receiving a call about an active shooter at its Fort Pierce campus.

Law enforcement refer to these types of false reports as "swatting," with the callers attempting to get a large police presence at a specific location.

An investigation is underway to determine where these calls originated.
