Florida Prosecutor Investigating "Wrong Driveway" Shooting

(SOUTHWEST RANCHES, FL) -- A Florida prosecutor has reopened an investigation into a confrontation involving a homeowner who allegedly opened fire on a food-delivery vehicle after the driver mistakenly turned into his driveway. Apparently, the state attorney was not in the loop when the Davie police department closed the case last week.

The case was reopened by Broward County State Attorney Harold Pryor after a local news reporter, who interviewed the victims, contacted the prosecutor's office about the April 15th shooting in Southwest Ranches, according to a statement.

Pryor claims Davie police never contacted his office after two shots hit the car of 19-year-old Waldes Thomas Jr. and his 18-year-old girlfriend, Diamond Darville. Both were uninjured, according to police.

The homeowner told police he fired his gun because "the car was being driven erratically, struck his leg and made him fear for himself and his son."

This case is the latest in a string of shootings nationwide involving people who mistakenly trespassed or accessed the wrong property or vehicle resulting in one death and several injured.
