Police in West Palm Beach stopped an attempted robbery at a Walmart.
Two officers were at the big box store along 45th Street on Saturday when a shopper approached them and said there was a robbery happening inside.
Police spokesman Mike Jachles says two men ran from the store into the parking lot and one of them held a gun. That's when the officers told the suspect to drop the weapon, but shots were fired.
Jachles tells CBS 12 News the protocol for officers in these situations.
"Anytime you have a handgun and you confront an officer, you can expect to be confronted back. And the officer will give commands and it's best to comply with the commands. Otherwise, you can get killed."
But he isn't saying whether any of the shots fired were from an officer's gun. Nobody was struck and one of the suspects was taken into custody.
The other remains at large.
