Florida's Chief Financial Officer has his eyes on some proposed legislation ahead of the Legislative session that gets underway in Tallahassee on Tuesday.
One would require online charity sites like GoFundMe to itemize donations and expenses of each charity.
In an interview with Brian Mudd on NewsRadio 1290 WJNO in West Palm Beach Monday, Jimmy Patronis said the bill would cut down on scams that we see after most disasters in our state.
"We just want transparency. Look, if you're using the title and the name 'Hurricane Ian' in your GoFundMe (post), I just expect GoFundMe to say where the money's going."
He says there were 75 separate scams identified on GoFundMe after the Surfside condo collapse.
"These are dirtbags that are going out there, they're preying on peoples' emotions. They're stealing some images off the Internet. They're creating a creative heartfelt story and they're literally stealing people's money."
Patronis is also supporting a bill that would ban TikTok from public schools.
In the interview above, The state's CFO and Fire Marshal also talked about the PNC Bank situation involving ESG and a bill that would keep something like that from happening in the future, as well as Universal School Choice.
