More than a dozen school board members from counties across the state will likely face challenges next year from DeSantis-endorsed candidates.

At a meeting this week with the state education commissioner and the parental rights group Moms for Liberty, the governor identified 14 incumbents who he wants to see replaced.

"Some people, were mandatory masking after the state mandate. They literally violated state law. Others are supporting woke ideologies in classrooms. You know, things that just aren't good for kids."

Moms for Liberty Co-founder Tina Descovich says DeSantis pointed out that he will have more names later.

"He was very clear that this is Round 1. So, he is just getting started. I feel like this is kind of the launch for the 2024 school board election season."

The organization helped recruit many of the school board candidates endorsed by the governor last year. Those candidates won most of their races.
