(Miami, FL) -- Fred is now a tropical depression again as it moves over the Dominican Republic and into Haiti. The National Hurricane Center says its moving west-northwest with decreased 35-mile-per-hour winds.

South Florida and the Florida Keys are currently in the system's cone of concern. Forecasters say any anticipated impact could be felt in Florida from Friday night through Monday.

The National Hurricane Center reports there is an increased risk of wind and rainfall impacts in Florida beginning Friday night or early Saturday in the Keys and spreading northward through portions of the Peninsula and the Panhandle Saturday through Monday. Beginning Friday, heavy rainfall could lead to real, urban, and small stream flooding, and the possibility of rapid river rises across southern Florida.

Fred is expected to regain Tropical Storm status early Friday morning over Cuba.
