Florida's Vaccine Supply vs Demand

As of today, over 5.3 million Floridians have at least started the vaccination process. On Monday, Floridians 40 and older will be vaccine eligible. With the drop comes the next reality, as of Monday, with an average age of 42.4, over half of Florida’s population will have access to a COVID-19 vaccine. The question is how many vaccines will there be? And how many more people will want them?

Based on the CDC’s vaccine tracker, 683,070 doses are in route to Florida for next week. There are 2.5 million Floridians between the ages of 40-49. Based on previous surveys 68% of this age range will want a vaccine. So, to the question of vaccine supply vs demand.

As of Monday, the vaccine supply will have increased by 21% and the demand is likely to grow by around 1.7 million Floridians or about 12 times the increase in supply for the vaccines. All of this is to say that if you want to schedule a vaccine, you’ll likely need to be on the ball next week as the competition for the available vaccines is likely to be the strongest it’s been in about a month.
