The Florida Department of Health reported only 3,615 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. The total is the lowest since October 31st. The weekly average is now down to 6,752 cases. The trend is the lowest since November 18th.
Also, According to the FDOH’s daily vaccine report, only 7,164 vaccinations took place on Sunday, this included fewer than 4,700 first doses being administered. Florida’s population adjusted allocation of first dose vaccines has declined by 66% under the Biden administration.
After the CDC issued new guidance regarding the opening of schools, which included a “hybrid” virtual learning/classroom model based on levels of community spread, Governor DeSantis said Florida’s schools will remain open. He said, "These kids have been out of school in parts of this country for almost a year and if you follow that CDC guidance, they will not go back in this school year and they may not even go back in the fall. That is a disgrace, that is not science. That is putting politics ahead of what’s right for kids. That is putting politics and special interests ahead of what the evidence and observed experience says".
Lastly, Florida Emergency Management Director, Jared Moskowitz of Parkland, is resigning after spending the past two years in the post. Jared previously served three terms in the Florida state house. Governor DeSantis praised his service.
