The trend of fewer new COVID cases in Florida continued through the weekend. With only 6,624 new diagnosed cases on Sunday, Florida’s weekly average for new cases sits just above 8,000. It’s the lowest weekly trend December 2nd.
Just under 2 million vaccinations had taken place by the end of Saturday based on the most recent vaccine report from the Florida Department of Health. According to the report, more than 1.3 million Floridians have received a first dose of a COVID vaccine with 667,830 having completed the two-dose schedule. More Floridians have been vaccinated with a second dose, than a first dose, for eight consecutive days.
Just under 100 Holocaust survivors in South Florida were the first to be immunized under the state's mobilization effort. The Region 7 Ambulance Strike Teams, which included the Fire Rescue teams of Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Davie, Palm Beach, Palm Beach County, Palm Beach Gardens, Riviera Beach and West Palm Beach administered the vaccines.
According to a post-move survey by United Van Lines, the pandemic led to 4% more people relocating to Florida in 2020 from the northeast than would have otherwise. The increase was led by those leaving New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
