Palm Beach County officials are clearing up any possible confusion, after the Town of Palm Beach announced this week that it would be closing its beaches for the upcoming holiday weekend. Town officials say they want to prevent large gatherings and what could be a "super spreader" event.
All county-operated beaches will remain open for Labor Day weekend.
The beaches will still need to adhere to CDC guidelines, according to county officials and the county later noted that Peanut Island remains closed until further notice, under an emergency order.
Palm Beach County-operated beaches include:
Carlin Park in Jupiter
Coral Cove Park in Tequesta
DuBois Park in Jupiter
Gulfstream Park in Gulfstream
Juno Beach Park in Juno Beach
Jupiter Beach Park in Jupiter
Loggerhead Park in Juno Beach
Ocean Cay Park in Jupiter
Ocean Inlet Park in Ocean Ridge
Ocean Ridge Hammock Park in Ocean Ridge
Ocean Reef Park in Riviera Beach
Phil Foster Park in Riviera Beach
R. G. Kreusler Park in Palm Beach
South Inlet Park in Boca Raton
The county notes that in keeping with an existing emergency order, beaching, landings, anchoring, or mooring of vessels on sandbars, islands, and open shorelines is still prohibited.
Local governments and municipalities may determine the closure of beaches within their jurisdictions if they feel it necessary.
