Taddeo Campaign Highlighted In 60 Minutes Hacking Story

A "60 Minutes" story on Russian election hacking focuses on the failed congressional campaign of Democratic Florida Senator Annette Taddeo.

In the report, 60 Minutes looks at the hacking of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the documents that were stolen during Taddeo's 2016 campaign for Congress.

Taddeo says: “I was on my way to a TV debate — live TV debate — and I get the call about the fact that not only were we hacked, but our information is now public, from our polling to our mail plan,” Taddeo said.

“My opponent, Joe Garcia, showed up at that debate with a printout of all the documents.”

In the segment, cyber security experts said the Russian government was behind the hacks and warned that they will try again. Politico's Marc Caputo said the Russian hack may have swayed Taddeo's primary fight because she only lost by about 700 votes.

“You know, I’ve been told by a lot of people, ‘You should stop talking about this. It’s really not good for you politically to remind people that you lost,’ ” Taddeo said.

“But I refuse to stop talking about it because, again, if it can happen to me it can happen to anyone.”
