Americans won't budge.
New numbers from the Census Bureau show 9.8% of the population changed addresses last year. That's the smallest share since recordkeeping began more than 60 years ago.
Back in the 1950s and 60s, roughly 20% of the population moved to a new home.
Why are more Americans putting down long-lasting roots? It's unclear. Some speculate the high cost of housing prevents people from moving, other say it's family connections or just a sense of satisfaction.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the most commonly cited reason for a move: 17% wanted a new or better lioving space. Only 12% moved for a new job and less than 1% struck out because they lost a job or wanted to find work.
