There’s a good chance that anything you’ve ever done online exists somewhere, on some server, that the men in black have access to. There is nothing we can do about that, but there is something we can do about what Google’s got on us. Two-thirds of all of us use Google Chrome as our browser and over 92% of us use Google as a search engine. That means that almost all of us have stuff stored with Google. Finally, about a year after Facebook’s foray into data transparency, Google is doing the same.
Google is now giving you the option to determine how long they store your activity. Here are six easy steps on how you do it:
- Login to your account
- Go to Data & Personalization
- Click Web & App Activity
- Click Manage Activity
- Click Choose to delete automatically
- Choose your time frame
Theoretically, once you do this, all the data they have on you will be deleted passed that timeline. Except for the men in black. Google’s next goal is to also add additional options for location tracking.
