Florida's two Republican U.S. senators are applauding the Trump administration's decision to end exemptions for countries that import Iranian oil. In a statement, Senator Marco Rubio said he's long supported applying maximum pressure on Iran due to the country's escalating support for terrorism and human rights abuses. On Twitter, Senator Rick Scott called the decision to end waivers an important step to cut off the money supply to Iran.
In the meantime, gas prices are down in Florida, but they could be on the way up based on news the U.S. was moving to end waivers for countries buying oil from Iran. TAAA says prices in Florida could rise as much as $.05 a gallon as the market digests the news. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular fell five-cents in the last week to $2.74. The highest average prices are in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area at $2.84 and Miami at $2.79. The lowest averages are in Jacksonville at $2.65 and Melbourne-Titusville at $2.67.
