The state House has unanimously approved the Senate's previously passed measure which ups injuring or killing a four-legged first responder from a third-degree to second-degree felony... The change increases the maximum prison sentence from five to 15 years.
State Senator Tom Wright is a strong supporter of the measure... he used to be police K-9 handler. The bill stems, in part, from the on-duty deaths of Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office canine Fang and Palm Beach Sheriff's Office dog Cigo. It's now up to Governor Ron DeSantis to sign off on the legislation so it can go into effect.
