The Sunshine State expected to be taking a major stand against anyone who hurts or kills a police dog or horse. Under current law, the crime is a third-degree felony with a suspect facing up to five years in prison. But lawmakers want to up the ante, making it a second-degree felony to hurt or kill a police dog or horse, punishable by up to fifteen years behind bars. The bill already passed unanimously in the state Senate, it's being introduced in the House today by Miami Beach Representative Michael Greico who expects it to pass unanimously as well. If it does, it will become law July 1st, 2019.
