'El Chapo' Branded Clothing Debuts Soon

El Chapo-branded clothing featuring the kingpin's name and signature is coming to a store near you soon.

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman signed a contract from a Manhattan federal prison granting the rights to his name and signature to a limited liability company. The newly created LLC will be run Guzman's wife, Emma Coronel, and their Brooklyn based attorneys.

"He wanted to set something legitimate for the benefit of his wife and his two daughters. Joaquin will have no role in the company and only agreed to give the intellectual property rights of his name and signature. We understand he will not earn any money from this venture," said attorney Michael Lambert.

The company is officially called El Chapo Guzman: JGL LLC. The items in progress include baseball caps, T-shirts, jean jackets, sweatshirts and phone cases.

A spokesman for the US attorney's office for the Eastern District of New York said, "he's not giving us money. He's not giving us proceedings of drug-dealing transactions. Everybody has intellectual property rights to their name, their signature, their identity."

Guzman's wife, a former beauty queen with interests in fashion, has twin 7-year-old daughters with the convicted drug lord.

She told the media, the company will be based in Mexico to help their struggling economy and the merchandise will be sold in Mexico and throughout the United States.
