Heads up commuters. The Florida Department of Transportation is getting ready to begin work on 3 major construction projects along I-396/State Road 836 and I-95. Spokesman Oscar Gonzalez says they're hosting Open Houses tomorrow, Wednesday and next week to answer questions from the public. He says most of the work will be done at night to limit traffic troubles. Work on I-395 includes reconstructing the expressway from the Midtown Interchange to the MacArthur Causeway with a new signature bridge over NW 2nd Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard. SR 836 will be double-decked from NW 17 Avenue through the Midtown Interchange and the ramp from eastbound SR 836 to northbound I-95 will be widened to two lanes. Work on I-95 will include extending the northbound auxiliary lane from NW 17 Street to NW 29th Street and replacing concrete pavement from NW 8th Street to NW 29 Street. Major construction is expected to begin in late March 2019 and is set for completion in the fall of 2023 at a cost of about 800-million-dollars.
Open Houses will be held on Tuesday, March 5th, at the Miami Police Benevolent Association, 2300 NW 14 Street, Miami Florida 33125; Wednesday, March 6th, at the Overtown Performing Arts Center, 1074 NW 3rd Avenue, Miami, Florida 33136; and on Thursday, March 14th, at the city of Miami Beach City Hall, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida 33139. The three meetings will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and project staff will be on hand to explain project details and answer questions.
