MIAMI BEACH, Fla.- A Virginia man wanted on an attempted murder charge was arrested overnight in Miami Beach.
According to U.S. Marshals Service, Derrick Markell Robinson shot someone in Petersburg, Virginia, seriously injuring the victim. Investigators believe Robinson traveled to Miami Beach to sell drugs in order to support his life on the run. They passed out fliers throughout Florida for residents to be on the lookout for Robinson, believed to be armed and dangerous.
According to an arrest report, an officer tried to pull the 26-year-old's car in the area of Meridian Avenue and 15th Street, but Robinson sped away, driving over double the speed limit. Police said Robinson eventually crashed into the entrance of a Publix on Dade Boulevard and attempted to run. He was into custody after an officer released his K-9.
Robinson was taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center and treated for minor injuries. an attempted murder charge, Robinson also has warrants for charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and marijuana possession.
Besides the attempted murder charge, Robinson also faces aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and marijuana possession charges.
Robinson will be extradited back to Virginia to face state charges.
