A security specialist at a Dania Beach middle school was arrested after authorities said he brought a gun to the school on the first day of classes.
Nathaniel Strowbridge, 57, was arrested Wednesday at Olsen Middle School on a charge of possessing a firearm on school property, according to a Broward Sheriff's Office arrest report.
Authorities said they received an anonymous tip that Strowbridge was carrying a firearm on campus and "they don't believe he is stable."
A deputy made contact with Strowbridge, who at first said he didn't have the weapon with him on campus, the report said.
He later admitted that he had a firearm in his car that was in the school parking lot, the report said.
Deputies got a search warrant for Strowbridge's car and found the gun, a .45 caliber Taurus, on the floorboard on the passenger side, the report said.
Stowbridge has been reassigned to home pending the termination process.
