An illegal South Florida slaughterhouse has been shut down, authorities say.
Over the weekend, police raided a facility in Sunrise that they say was masquerading as a goat farm. Police arrested its manager on two dozen charges of animal cruelty and confinement of animals without sufficient food and water.
Animal Recovery Mission founder Richard Couto says an undercover investigation found that employees were performing illegal slaughters, killing animals with axes, hatchets, and machetes.
Couto says the facility also conducted animal sacrifices.
