Authorities in Tampa say a woman threw her 4-year-old daughter into a Florida river, killing the child.
Shakayla Denson, 26, is now facing a charge of first-degree murder in the Thursday death of Je’Hyrah Daniels.
According to police, Denson stole a car and drove to the Hillsborough River. Witnesses say she waded in the vehicle before tossing the child and leaving.
Authorities responding to reports of a child thrown into the river found the unconscious girl about 30 minutes later.
Je'Hyrah was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Police say they found Denson walking nearby and took her into custody. She is also charged with child abuse and grand theft auto.
