Where Is The Country At With Disaster Relief Efforts?

U.S. Congressman Lou Barletta says natural disasters in the United States caused an estimated $370-billion in damages last year.  

During a House hearing on disaster recovery from 2017 hurricane season and the outlook for this year, the Pennsylvania Republican said there were 10 Atlantic hurricanes in 2017. 

Those hurricane affected parts of Florida, Texas, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.  

Barletta added that last year was one of the worst wildfire seasons on record, with over 66,000 wildfires that burned nearly 10-million acres of land.  

He explained the committee hearing with FEMA, Army Corps of Engineers and the national EMA will help determine where the country is at in recovery efforts. 

 The 2018 hurricane season began June 1st.
