Florida U.S. Senator Marco Rubio is calling on Congress to send a message to Russian president Vladimir Putin by passing his bipartisan measure called DETER.
DETER stands for Defending Elections from Threats by Establishing Redlines.
On the Senate floor on Tuesday, the Republican senator said the DETER Act lists sanctions that will go into effect immediately if it is determined that Russia is once again interfering in our elections.
Rubio said the only thing that Putin understands is deterrence.
