Two historic launch towers at Cape Canaveral are... nonexistent as of this morning.
Just after 7 a.m. Eastern time, the commander of the Air Force's 45th Space Wing hit a button that triggered demolition of the towers and mobile gantries at Launch Complex 17.
The complex was the site of more than 300 launches, starting in 1957 with the Air Force's launch of a Thor intermediate ballistic missile.
Complex 17 will now be used by a private company called Moon Express that plans to test a small lunar lander that could fly missions for NASA and others.
