The Brevard County School Board met on Tuesday to discuss the finalization of a plan to hire more mental health workers for schools.
The state is giving the county $1.7-million to address mental health issues for students across Florida, as a way to help prevent school violence.
The funding comes from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas School Safety Act, which is also providing money to upgrade security at schools around the Sunshine State.
School leaders want to hire 16 more social workers, five instructional assistants to help counselors, and four more school psychologists.
