Florida Congressional Candidates Make Running Official This Week

Florida's Congressional election may not come around until November, but the election season is already kicking  into high gear.

Candidates anticipating a run for U.S. Congress must turn in their official paperwork this week in order to qualify for the ballot. The qualifying period begins Monday at noon and ends Friday at the same time.

The biggest race this fall will be the match-up between Republican Gov. Rick Scott and Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson. Scott announced his plans to run against Nelson earlier this month, since he will be leaving the Governor's office due to term limits. 

Candidates running for judge, state attorney and public defender must also turn in their qualifying information this week.

Candidates running for the Florida Legislature or for statewide offices such as governor must turn in their official paperwork in June.
