DNA Ties Killer Clown Suspect to Getaway Car Used In 1990 Murder

Palm Beach County prosecutors said Thursday that more evidence is helping them further connect a South Florida woman to a "killer clown" murder case from 28 years ago.

Sheila Keen Warren was arrested in September at the Virginia home she shared with her husband — Michael Warren, Marlene Warren's widower.

In may of 1990, 40-year-old Marlene Warren opened her home's door on a Saturday morning to find a clown in an orange wig and a red nose holding two foil balloons and carnations. The clown, without saying a word, shot Warren directly in the face, then walked to a Chrysler LeBaron convertible and drove away.

Authorities say evidence collected over the years against Keen Warren includes hundreds of pages of witness statements, photographs, reports and maps. It also says recent DNA tests conducted by the FBI links hair found in LaBaron to Sheila Keen Warren.

Keen Warren, now 54, was arrested in September of 2017 and remains jailed without bond. Prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty.

A Killer Clown Case Gets EVEN Creepier

A suspect has been arrested in a 27-year-old case involving a killer clown. You won't believe the suspect

At the time of the murder, Michael Warren owned a used car lot and Sheila Keen did repossessions for him. Other employees, according to official documents, told detectives Warren and Keen had been seen kissing and having sex in the office and her neighbors said he was frequently at her house.

Warren and Keen denied a relationship.

They married in 2002.

Immediately after the shooting, detectives worked to find where the clown costume, balloons and flowers had been purchased and to find the car. All turned out to be linked to Keen (or a woman who witnesses say at least looked like Keen).

The LeBaron was soon found abandoned in a parking lot. It had been reported stolen by a Payless rental agency near Michael Warren's car lot, Bargain Motors.

Michael Warren was convicted in 1994 of grand theft, racketeering and odometer tampering and served almost four years in prison.

After his wedding to Keen, they settled in Virginia, where they operated a popular restaurant that they sold just before her arrest.
