A South Florida man is accused of first-degree murder in the death of his father whose remains were found on an abandoned Boca Raton golf course last week.
James Scandirito Jr., 49, of Fort Lauderdale, was taken into custody in Alachua County after he was found driving his car with a stolen license plate, Boca Raton Police said Tuesday.
The remains of his father, 74-year-old James "Skip" Scandirito Sr., were discovered last Wednesday on the abandoned golf course at the former Ocean Breeze Golf Club.
Officers say they met with Scandirito Jr. and he told them his father was supposed to return home the night before but never did.
During the search for Scandirito Sr., there were inconsistencies in the timeline provided by Scandirito Jr., police said. He was later identified as a suspect in the case.
Scandirito Jr. was being held on a first-degree murder charge.
