Earlier this year, news an affair between two state senators from South Florida became public knowledge. Now, one of the parties is speaking out and saying it didn’t affect their job performance.
Sen. Oscar Braynon, a Democrat from Miami Gardens and the Minority Leader on the chamber, spoke Monday about the affair with Republican Sen. Anitere Flores, who represents a district including Monroe County and parts of Miami-Dade.
An anonymous website posted pictures and videos of Flores walking into and out of Braynon's Tallahassee apartment.
“I did it (my job) as well as I could,” Braynon said. “It did not affect my ability to be the minority leader, to be a senator, I am still a senator and I am here now.”
Senators Flores and Braynon released the joint statement as the Florida Legislature began its annual 60-day session in Tallahassee.
Since then, both Senators, who are married and have children, have apologized and have remained in their seats.
Braynon says he wants to spend his time in office focusing on his duties in Tallahassee.
