Arrest Made After Tiny Dog Found Tied Up, Abused In Pembroke Pines

Police in Pembroke Pines have arrested a woman after her small dog was found hungry, bleeding and tied to a fence last year.

The agency posted photos on their Facebook page Monday night showing “Shadow”, a Chihuahua that was found tied to a home on September 21, 2017.

A Good Samaritan had found the pup and brought it to a local animal hospital, where officers were called to investigate.

According to authorities, the dog:

  • Had no access to food
  • No access to water
  • Was dirty
  • Suffered from mange
  • Had two large lacerations on its body from wearing a small harness

Officers investigated the dog’s owner, Jenniemae Mathurin, who said she didn’t know how the dog got abused but kept him outside because he kept urinating in the house.

Mathurin was arrested on March 22nd of this year. She faces a charge of aggravated animal cruelty.

Shadow was placed in a new home and his medical bills were paid by the Good Samaritan and an animal rescue fund.

Pembroke Pines Police say they released the images in hopes of preventing further abuse cases and ask anyone who witnesses or suspects animal abuse to call police.
