Gov. Scott Orders Flags At Half-Staff For FIU Victims

In honor and memory of the victims of the Florida International University bridge collapse in Miami, the Governor has ordered U.S. and Florida flags be flown at half-staff on Thursday.

Thursday marks one week since the tragedy.

The U.S. and state flags will be flown at half-staff sunrise to sunset Thursday at the Capitol in Tallahassee, “and at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Miami-Dade County,” an announcement Tuesday by the Governor's office said.

“Our state continues to mourn and we offer our sincerest condolences to their families,” the statement said.

The collapse of the 950-ton pedestrian bridge left at least six people dead and at least as many injured.

Scott quickly joined local and federal officials on the scene, promising a full investigation and pointing the finger at the university for the disaster.
