Some residents of Lake Worth Beach are raising a stink over a sewage spill last week that continues to cause problems in a local waterway.

An AT&T worker putting in fiber optic cables broke a sewer main along Florida Mango Road, where gushing sewage caused a sinkhole. The sewage poured into a canal and residents living near it say that has led to a fishkill.

"Thursday we could see in the canal the fish trying to come up for air and by Saturday morning they were floating on top."

Angela Peeper tells CBS 12 News that the smell is so bad that she left town.

"I think that on Saturday it got up to about 89, 90 degrees so obviously whatever was in the lake was cooking."

She's also upset that the city isn't keeping residents informed. But a utility official says notices have been posted on hundreds of doors.

The canal has been dammed so it doesn't spread and workers are pumping fresh water into it while the repairs continue.
