Muslim Men Under 50 Banned From Jerusalem Shrine

Israeli authorities are on high alert after Muslim men under the age of 50 were banned from a Jerusalem shrine.  Tens of thousands of Muslim worshipers normally flock to the Al-Aqsa Mosque for Friday prayers.

Israeli police said the ban was put in place after some Palestinians barricaded themselves inside the mosque as part of a protest.  Muslim protesters clashed with police yesterday after the shrine was reopened following an 11 day prayer boycott over security measures at the site.  Israeli authorities put metal detectors at the entry gates last week after Arab-Israeli gunmen killed two police guards at the flashpoint holy site.  The metal detectors sparked mass protests by Muslims.
